Second Annual Show-Me Giving Gala

Our Second Annual Show-Me Giving Gala was held on Friday, April 25th at The Tiger Hotel in downtown Columbia.  Thank you to everyone who came out to support Missouri’s most vulnerable citizens.

We honored the following:

  • Julie Perman, Volunteer of the Year – CASA of Southwest Missouri
  • Glenda Volmert, Program Director of the Year – Franklin County CASA
  • Judge H. Mark Preyer, Judge of the Year – 35th Judicial Circuit
  • Missouri State Senator Bob Dixon

Volunteer of the Year

Julie Perman has been a volunteer with CASA of Southwest Missouri CASA for two years where she has taken on three separate cases.  Julie’s desire to ensure her CASA children are in the best possible place emotionally and physically has driven her to research resources for foster families and create a resource guide which has impacted many foster families in Greene County.

“She is an advocate in the truest sense of the word,” said Jim Slater, Volunteer Coordinator for CASA of Southwest Missouri.  “If Julie is on your side, then stand back, she’s going to advocate for you and she’s going to make sure you get what you need.”

Program Director of the Year

Glenda Volmert has served as the Executive Director of Franklin County CASA since it was started in 2006. She has expanded the program to serve 104 foster children with 53 volunteers who provided more than three thousand hours of service in 2013.

“What Glenda brings to the equation is the constant reminder of who you’re serving and why you’re serving them,” said John Viviano, Franklin County CASA Volunteer.  “She really helps to keep the focus on the kids and on the family.”

Judge of the Year

Judge H. Mark Preyer has proven to be a strong advocate of the children in the foster care system and of the CASA programs and their volunteers.

“Judge Preyer is not a nine to five judge.  He’s an all the time judge and he cares about kids all the time,” said Tommy Campbell, Chief Deputy Juvenile Officer of the 35th Judicial Circuit.  “He’s a judge for the children all the time.”

Lasting Legacy

Senator Bob Dixon was elected to the Missouri Senate in 2010 as a representative for District 30. Prior to his current office, he served four terms in the Missouri House of Representative.

In 2013, Senator Dixon was instrumental in getting the Champion for Children Tax Credit reinstated.  His past legislative efforts have centered on crime prevention and public safety, the protection of children from predators and abusers, the rights of crime victims, the advancement of mental health, access to quality and affordable healthcare coupled with insurance reform, and increased funding for quality public education.
